When facing a list of goals you have attempted to achieve most of your life thus far, it can be quite daunting. The term “flight or fight” is generally used when someone is faced with a tough decision. It did not take me long to choose to flee instead of face the decisions I had made. That being said, I snapped out of it and here I am: still facing the same daunting list of goals but choosing to fight this time.
Baby steps. When assisting in training new people in my job, I often use this statement to emphasize the need to walk before you run. I had forgotten to focus on this very important step when it came to my own goals. As much as I wanted to throw myself into all these challenges, it was too much too soon. I needed to stretch first, warm up and walk a little before I can even consider starting to run.
Take for example my goal that is based around appearance. I want to make an effort with my appearance before I leave the house. This does not mean a full face of make up, accessorized to the max, coordinated outfit and perfect hair. No, it means a small amount of effort to feel a little more confident when leaving the house. Looking in the mirror and being just a fraction happier with the look of the person staring back at you. Although, quite shallow, we would be lying if we didn’t admit that this extra detail to our appearance didn’t bolster our confidence a small bit. Baby steps. I’ll get there eventually and I know I will.
The point I am trying to make here is this: Take your time and expect it to take all the time in the world. We are all going to get there eventually and wouldn’t you hate to miss the view whilst you climb?
